Track Comedy Open Mics with Google Calendar Sync

Organize your open mic routine across town with recurring rules, sign-up notes, and two-way Google Calendar sync that protects your personal schedule.

6 min read

Comedians can track open mic spots in Google Calendar by maintaining a dedicated talent schedule and connecting two-way calendar sync. This displays call times, sign-up cutoffs, and stage slots right beside your personal appointments without mixing the two together.

Running between venues leaves little room for bad notes. Logging stage times, lottery rules, and set limits in a structured calendar keeps you organized and prevents accidental double-bookings.

Set up a dedicated talent schedule

Do not mix open mic drop-ins directly into your default Google Calendar. When work meetings, dentist visits, and grocery runs share a view with ten potential open mics a week, your screen turns into an unreadable mess of overlapping blocks. If you change a set time or delete an old mic, you risk moving personal appointments by mistake.

Instead, build a dedicated calendar for comedy gigs. In Event Schedule, you can select a Talent schedule designed for solo performers. Events and schedules are unlimited on every plan, including the Free ($0) plan. This keeps every spot, stage address, and call time contained in one distinct schedule that exists independently of your private email account.

Build recurring mic patterns and skip cancellations

Most open mics run on fixed patterns. Some happen every Wednesday night, while others happen on alternating weeks or specific weekdays, such as the second or fourth Tuesday of each month. Entering those dates by hand every week wastes time you could spend writing jokes.

When you create an open mic entry on the Event tab, choose Recurring beside Date & Time to open the repeat settings. You can select from several repeat patterns:

  • Weekly: Repeats every week. Tick the Days of the Week the event runs on (Sun, Mon, Tue, and so on).
  • Every N Weeks: Repeats every 2 to 52 weeks, such as fortnightly rooms that run every other Sunday. Also uses the Days of the Week checkboxes.
  • Monthly (same day of week): Repeats on the same weekday each month, for example the second Tuesday.
  • Monthly (same date): Repeats on the same date each month, for example the 15th.

Room cancellations happen frequently around holidays or venue buyouts. Instead of deleting the entire recurring series, use Exclude Dates under the recurring settings. Click Add Date and select the date of the holiday. That single date is absent from the schedule: guests see nothing there, rather than a cancelled entry.

Connect two-way Google Calendar sync

Once your recurring mics are set, turn on Google Calendar sync to link your talent schedule directly to your Google account. Event Schedule supports two-way calendar sync with Google Calendar, Outlook, and CalDAV on every plan.

Two-way sync means any edit you make in either place updates the other. If a host texts you at 5:00 PM saying a showcase moved back thirty minutes, you can open Google Calendar on your phone, drag the block to the new time, and the event updates on your schedule page. If you add a one-off open mic slot on your desktop dashboard, it shows up on your phone calendar.

A recurring event is pushed to a connected Google Calendar as a single entry on the series start date, rather than a repeating appointment. To see every recurring date listed individually on your personal calendar app for the next 90 days, you can subscribe to your schedule's live iCal feed.

Keep in mind that while Event Schedule syncs your schedule to your calendar, it cannot automatically submit your name to outside venue sign-up forms, lottery links, or in-person bucket draws. You still need to put your name down according to each venue's rules.

What to record for every open mic spot

Open mics run on strict house rules. Showing up ten minutes late because you forgot the lottery cutoff means you do not get stage time. Put every detail you need at the door directly into the event description field so you can check it from your phone while walking to the room.

You can format these notes in the Description field under About on the Event tab. Whenever you tap the spot on your Google Calendar or your schedule page, the door rules appear right away.

Share your spots without exposing your personal life

Friends, family, and comedy bookers will ask where you are performing next. Sending screenshots of your personal calendar is messy and reveals private appointments, work shifts, and personal plans.

Because your talent schedule has its own public web address (name.eventschedule.com), you can share your public link directly. People who want to catch your sets can see your upcoming public dates on one page. Guests can also click Subscribe to all events from your schedule to add your dates as a live calendar feed in their own calendar apps without needing an account. Questions people ask

Can Event Schedule automatically submit my name to open mic lotteries?

No. Event Schedule syncs scheduled dates and times directly to Google Calendar, but it cannot automatically submit your name to external venue sign-up forms or lottery drop-ins.

How do I handle an open mic that only runs every other week?

On the Event tab, choose Recurring beside Date & Time, set Frequency to Every N Weeks, enter 2, and tick the day of the week the mic runs.

Will comedy bookers see my personal calendar if I use Google Calendar sync?

No. Two-way sync connects your private Google Calendar account to your Event Schedule admin account behind the scenes. Bookers and fans only see public events published on your schedule page.

How do I remove a mic spot for a single holiday?

Open the recurring event on the Event tab, scroll down to Exclude Dates under the repeat settings, click Add Date, and pick the holiday date. That occurrence is absent from your schedule without breaking the rest of the series.
